30 Medals won by Haverhill’s Uk Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Club.

17 Members of the Haverhill Tang Soo Do Korean Martial Arts Club took part with hundreds of other competitors at the 31st British Central Regional Championships held on the 9th May at Watford in front of the Grand Master Kang UK Lee.

Instructor Kevin Blackwell said “An unbelievable record medal haul of 30 medals for Suffolk ranging from bronze medals through to gold for the students at the Haverhill Do Jang.

The club it totally non profit, all instructors and black belts give their free time to run and teach at the club for the benefit of anyone who wishes to train.

We had to seek sponsorship to help expand the club in order to nurture, encourage and help all future and the up and coming students, with the Support of the Haverhill Town Council, the club matched and raised enough money to purchase one set of competition mats to help students train safely for Regional and National Championships.

The club has only had the mats for a short time and it has already dramatically helped in their preparation and training as you can see by the 30 Medals won. Two of our instructors Dean Blackwell and Craig Phillips were chosen to compete for Cambridgeshire in the team fighting event in which we won Bronze.

Every students that competed, gave everything they had and truly upheld the reputation Suffolk have established a huge well done.” ”

Tang Soo Do is a classical martial art.

Its purpose is to develop every aspect of self, in order to create a mature personality who totally integrates his/her intellect, body, emotions and spirit.

This total integration helps to create a person who is free from inner conflict and who can deal with the outside world in a mature, confident, intelligent, forthright, and virtuous manner.
